At Tumbled Travels, our love for beautiful jewelry is deeply rooted in our respect for the great outdoors. As passionate, lifelong rockhounds, we know that protecting the environment and honoring land laws is the only way to ensure future generations can enjoy these natural wonders. We pride ourselves on 100% transparency. Here is how we ensure that every stone we sell is ethically, legally, and sustainably sourced.
Separation of Public & Private Lands
The laws surrounding rockhunting are strict, and we adhere to them completely. We draw a sharp line between our personal hobby and our commercial business.
The Commercial Standard (No BLM Sales): United States law prohibits the sale of materials collected under hobby rules on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and public lands. Because of this, we never, under any circumstances, harvest stones from BLM or public land for commercial sale.
The Hobby Exception: We love stones just as much as our customers do! We do still rockhound on BLM lands strictly for our own personal, private hobby collection, always abiding by federal daily limits.
Where Your Jewelry Comes From: Every stone bound for our shop is logged as an approved commercial source. This includes material harvested from our own private land, legally permitted commercial private claims, or purchased from trusted rock shops.

When we are out in the field harvesting from private land or claims, we treat the landscape with the utmost care. We strictly follow Leave-No-Trace principles, but we also believe in going a step further.
Backfilling Our Work: We strictly backfill every single hole we dig, restoring the soil so that nature's beauty is preserved and the landscape looks exactly as it did before we arrived.
Leaving It Cleaner Than We Found It: Far too often, we encounter litter and debris left behind by previous visitors. Because of this, we always pack dedicated trash bags with us into the field. We actively clean up the sites we visit, hauling out discarded trash to leave the wild spaces a little more pristine than we found them.

By entering these "forgotten" gems into our log and polishing them to a high-caliber shine, we practice a unique, traceable form of gem upcycling.
